according to kenny clarke, "monk
wrote for bud. all his music
was written for bud powell.
all this piano music,
he deliberately wrote for bud
because he figured bud
was the only one
who could play it.
"he wrote for bud
just like a composer
writes for a singer.
& when you hear bud
play monk's music,
then you really
hear
something."
