we've gone through so much
to still be together, & i know
it's no easy thing
to live this life with me
in daily pursuit
of the systematic derangement
of the senses, & the relentless penury
which is the sentence
of the poet
on this planet earth--
oh baby, i've loved you so long
& so incompletely,
losing my head
in a cloud of smoke
& always dragging you
with me
to abide with my
rampart street
