so begins the second of monk's three sessions in october & november 1947,
a sly nod toward his unemployed friends & a small
tip of the monkian hat to mr. alfred lion of blue note records,
busy stockpiling masters against the recording ban of 1948, & possessed
of enough good taste & intelligence to bring in monk,
gene ramey & art blakey to cut these musical gems & leave them to shine
for our enrichment & delight as long as there are records
