One of our most exciting programs to date was cut backstage at the legendary Paradiso at the annual Balloon Party staged by the people from the venerable rural art squat at Ruigoord, which has been in operation since 1972 or so. Every December 28th the group and their friends and art colleagues stage the Balloon Party at the Paradise and create elaborate theatrical productions to celebrate the occasion. For our broadcast we were joined by Rasta Robert of Radio Ruigoord, the commune's own internet/sometimes pirate radio station, and prominent cast members from the Balloon Party production, including ringmeister Hans Plomp, Aja of the Ruigoord Vrij Partie, chanteuse/comediennes Leni St. Luce & Fifi L Amour, and musicians Knarf and Armand. There was recorded music from New Orleans by Professor Longhair, Eluard Burt & Company, the Wild Magnolias, Dr. John, John Sinclair & His Blues Scholars, and Smokey Johnson with our closing theme this week, It Ain t My Fault.
