Justin Showah and I raced from Two Stick on the Square out to the campus of Ole Miss, where we were scheduled to sit in for Tom Speed on his Thursday night show on Rebel Radio, WUMS-FM. We added a whole new dimension to the station's oft-iterated slogan, The New Sound of Rebel Radio, and played a whole program of music from Mississippi and the hill country, including cuts by Olu Dara, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Jimbo Mathus, the Taylor Grocery Band, Little Freddie King, Howlin Wolf, Bo Diddley, Baby Boy Warren and John Lee Hooker, with a closing set of New Orleans music from the Wild Magnolias, Snooks Eaglin, Roland Stone and Kermit Ruffins. Sonny Boy Williamson takes us out to end a fine old-school show: No guests, just a lot of great music!
