I celebrated my return to Amsterdam with a reunion with Henk Botwinik, Larry Hayden and Anthony Murrell at the Episodes office in the CS Post building that serves as offices and studios for the Radio Free Amsterdam project. We talked about the devastation of New Orleans at some length, played music by Professor Longhair, Huey Smith, Irma Thomas, Roy Montrell and Earl King, featured music from my concert at the Detroit International Jazz Festival September 3rd, a conversation with our new associate producer, Octavio Carrasco, a set of music by the MC5, John Lee Hooker, Thurston Harris and Howlin Wolf, a number from my July 30th performance at the Toledo Blues Festival (where I recited these passages from the words of David Honeyboy Edwards directly into the ears of Honeyboy himself, who told my granddaughter sitting across from him, I m in this one ), Closing Tokes and the Godfather himself, James Brown, to take us out.
